Lessons from a Midwestern Highway

We are no match for the potatoes
plopped into fryers.

The world
(or lack thereof)
on the highway:
apocalyptic warnings.

Drown in where we gotta go to
I imagine
everyone grateful they’re growing up where the
oil is.

The eeriness of the cornfields screaming
“get out of here”
Imagining their silent burning,
watching the money churning
draining away from any old farmer’s pockets.

Gotta go, we’re saying.
Abiding to
doctrines:

Live out of our wants:
a messiah is coming.
