Solipsism, when broadly applied to poetry, is one of self-involvement; reality ceases to exist beyond one’s own mind. This disconnect with reality, this fragmentation of the conscious, poses a thousand unresolvable questions regarding the world’s legitimacy. At A Crossroads With Solipsism circles back to this principle as a notion of narcissism and futility—this feeling of insignificant helplessness that somehow manages to root itself in every poem, no matter the overarching context of the piece itself. The collection morphs into a solipsist’s quest, then, and every word becomes a navigation of reality’s stark, haunting truths. Paradoxically, in echoing a circumnavigation of ones own reality, we arrive at a crossroads not only with ourselves, but with a kind of spiritual contentment only discovered upon the comprehension of a reality outside our own.
